Distribution
Canada through the USA, C and S America to the southern tip of Chile.
Diet:
Carnivorous. Elks, deer, wild boars, porcupines, rabbits, hares, guanacos, domestic stock, snakes, small birds, fish.

Habitat: Arid mountainous areas, tropical rainforest, cold coniferous forest
Gestation: 92-96 days, 1-6 cubs.
Social structure: solitary, coming together only to mate.
Weight: male 72kg, female 48kg

Estimated population in the wild: decreasing
Lifespan: ~20
Threats: Conflict with farmers who kill or poison them, to protect their livestock, habitat loss and degradation, prey reduction.
