A new member was added to the Park's family!

Attica Zoological Park announces with pleasure its newest member, a small capybara that was born on the February 28th 2011.

This is the world’s heaviest rodent, reaching up to 65 kg in weight.

They live in forested and grassland areas in North and South America , and spend much time in the water, where they can hide if necessary, with only their nose sticking out.

They live in groups of up to 100 individuals (usually around 20) with a dominant male and several females. Mothers give birth to up to 8 young (usually 4) after a gestation period of 150 days.

Populations are fairly stable, even though they are hunted extensively for their meat and hide.
