Μatima, the pygmy hippo that was born at the Park 1 1/2 months ago, passed away yesterday morning due to a sudden pulmonary edema. Μatima was the third pygmy hippo that was born at Αttica Zoological Park. The other two are totally healthy in Zoological Parks in Germany and Switzerland respectively and participate in reproduction programmes of these beautiful animals. It is only natural these unfortunate news to touch everyone, but in a big Zoological Park like ours, where more than 2000 animals live, every aspect of life from birth to death act as an alarm clock of the responsibility humans have taken for their protection in the wild.
